Hello everyone
I arranged two new servers for mediaconverter.org with 6tb free traffic. So I can decrease the costs every month at least a bit. This is of course also an advantage for you because soon it are 5 servers which will handle the load.
The daily user amount increased to 19000 - 20000 users. That's quite a lot.
By the way ... I'm glad to see that many people donated this month. The goal isn't reached yet but I'm confident that we'll make it.
Now to the poll:
As you may know I'm planning a paid version of mediaconverter.org. Of course it's important for me to know what I should offer that you would pay for it.
Here are some examples of additional features:
- Online disk space for your favourite converted files (something between 1 or 5 gb)
- Additional video portals (for instance: myspacetv, bebo, facebook and so on)
- File manager for the converted files
- No ads
- increased file size limit (200mb - 300mb)
What do you think? Any suggestions?

Eine Bezahl-Version ist zwar nicht so toll, aber bei solch einem Andrang wohl unumgänglich. Ich denke, es wär gut wenn diese dann speziell wäre, also für solche Sachen wie größere Dateien oder speziellere Videoseiten. Trotz allem sollte die kostenlose Version so bleiben, da das Downloaden vor allem von Youtube und Myvideo für mich diese Seite auszeichnet.

Ja die Gratisversion bleibt natürlich so wie sie ist und wird auch weiterhin gepflegt. Es geht halt einfach darum endlich die kosten zu decken.

Ich finde eine Bezahl-Version ist eine gute idee, wenn die kostenlose auch bleibt.
Die Bezahl-Version sollte sich aber deutlich von der normalen Version abheben, sonst wird dafür niemand Geld hinblättern.
Ich finde, man sollte mit der Bezahl-Version die Werbung nicht mehr sehen können, das ist bei den meisten anderen Internetportalen standart.
Dann wäre noch gut, online-Festplattenspeicher anzubieten, das würde sicher viele zum Kauf "verführen".
Noch ne idee wäre, den Bezahl-Usern bei Downloads höhere Prioritäten zuzuweisen, dass man sozusagen schneller downloaden kann weil der Server die Anfragen dieser User zuerst bearbeitet (weiss aber nicht, ob das mit der Software, die du benutzt, klappt).
PS: Also ich wäre bereit für die oben genannten Features um die 25€ zu bezahlen.

Ich binn mir einig mit die vorherigen Kommentaren, aber ich glaub ein des beste Optionen ist immerhin nich nicht gennent.
Wieso verkaufst du Version wem mann runterladen kann nicht?
Obwohl ich's selber nicht kaufen werde, ich benutze Linux (noch ein Idee vielleicht, ein Linux Version verkaufen?) denk ich das es doch Leute geben werde die die selbständige Software kaufen werden.

I'm going off to college in a few months so the main thing I'd look for is an affordable price. Would this paid version have a monthly or yearly subscription fee?
@Strifemaster: I would assume that the paid version would have a fixed tariff. and would NOT be a subscription.
I would guess (and suggest) that the 'subscription fee' would be a certain amount per week / month / trimester / year. (To be decided by Pascal)
What I meant with it not being a 'normal' subscription is that users can just buy access to the paid (sub)part of Media Converter for as long as they want and should not have to worry about a subscription.
My suggestion;
€10,- for 1 week private access to 5 GiB of webspace (Every day 1 GiB free traffic, afterwards €1.50 per GiB)
€25,- for 1 month private access to 5 GiB of webspace (every day 2.5 GiB free traffic, afterwards 1.25 Euro per GiB)
€60,- for 1 trimester private access to 5 GiB of webspace (every day 5 GiB traffic free, afterwards 1 Euro per GiB)
€200,- for a whole year private access to 5 GiB of webspace (Fair Use Policy, something like max 10 GiB per day)
And just multiply it for more webspace.
So based on Alexander's comment he could get access to the paid version and have 5 GiB of webspace for 1 month.
PS Pascal ich würde kein online-Festplattenspeicher anbieten währe ich dich. Es ist ziemlich schwierig zu konkurieren mit Arschlöcher wie z.b. Google und Microsoft die die Sachen viel billiger anbieten können.

Preislich habe ich es mir auch so vorgestellt. Vielleicht noch etwas günstiger. Ich möchte eigentlich gar nicht mit Google konkurrieren etc. Es geht mehr darum, dass man die konvertierten Filme online speichern kann, um sie allenfalls woanders wieder herunterladen zu können.
Die Idee mit dem Traffic ist auch nicht schlecht. Das Problem ist jedoch, dass ich den wirklichen Traffic nicht pro User bestimmen kann. Somit fällt das leider weg.
Ich arbeite im Moment an einer kompletten Überarbeitung der Webseite (Neues Design inkl. Premium Accounts). Ich werde mir dafür jedoch etwas Zeit lassen, da alles sauber funktionieren sollte, wenn ich schon Geld dafür verlange ;)

There will still be a free version, right?
Here is a HUGE suggestion:
Make two versions: a paid one, and a free one.
The paid one will have the listed stuff you mentioned in the post, but maybe some more disk space than 5 gb. Maybe a webhosting thingy would be good too (like subdomain, mediaconverter.com/username, etc.).
For the free version, keep it as it is right now. maybe a little bit of hosting space, like 100 mb.
I never said that I'll remove the free service I just said that I'll introduce a paid service ;) So don't worrry
